How to · ThriftyPDF

Compress a scanned PDF

Scans are pictures of pages—exactly what our compressor handles well. Expect meaningful savings when you lower quality slightly.

Processed in your browser — not uploaded to our servers.

Honest limits: we re-render pages as JPEG. Best for scans/image-heavy PDFs. Text-only files may get larger or look softer.

Steps

  1. Drop the scanned PDF.
  2. Try quality 0.7 and scale 1.0 first.
  3. If still large, drop scale to about 0.85.
  4. Confirm fine print is readable.

FAQ

OCR afterward?

Raster compress does not add OCR text.

Color vs grayscale?

Multi-hundred pages?
